Programme note
“Long Trek” depicts a long and difficult journey full of uncertainties. Since ancient times, many merchants and travelers suffered through critical situations and wearisome expeditions before they reached their destination. This piece intends to combine both electronic and acoustic elements to simulate the feeling and the world of long trek. The piece starts with tape, which includes various Chinese and English spoken texts and wind sounds. With the meditative atmosphere, the soprano singing in live and the almgeckon player juxtapose their lines along with the tape to create a spatial effect of a long trek. At the end, the wind sound starts again and fades out bringing the piece to a close.
