Programme note

A thousand years pass by in a glance, a million things are actually just following the fate. “Yuen” is an abstract concept in Chinese Culture, it means the connection between people and incidents, and the relationship or affections in between.

Minimalism is used in this piece. On the left hand of the piano, only one single note keeps repeating, like heartbeat or footstep. On the right hand part, only a few notes are used, the variation lies in the depth of the sound, like calligraphy.

This piece is like our life, we could meet many people in our life, we should appreciate what life and the “Yuen” bring us.

樂曲介紹

千年一瞬，萬事隨緣。緣是中國文化尤其是佛教文化的一個抽象概念，是指人與人/事/物之間所存在的連結，關係或相遇。在不同時代的中國文學裏，亦有不少的文人提及自己對緣的看法。例如呂氏春秋《慎行論》—「緣氏之情」，李白《秋浦歌》—「緣愁似個長」和沈贊《夢溪筆談》─「緣土氣有早晚」等等。

作曲者以極簡主義作為此曲的創作方向。在鋼琴的左手部份，都有一個音不斷重覆，從不間斷，如人的心跳，腳步聲一般。右手則只刻意使用了幾個音作旋律骨幹，不追求橫向發展，卻是追求深度的變化，猶如寫毛筆時候字體的粗幼和深淺變化。在弦樂四重奏方面，作曲者特意帶出兩種極端的聲音。一種是極為細膩，而另一種是非常粗獷的音色。

作曲者認為此曲就如人生一樣，每一遇到的人都可能是自己人生的過客。人在經過高低起伏後，路還是要繼續走。人們應該時常感恩得到的事和物，要知足常樂。努力過後，剩下的就看緣份吧。
