Programme note

Origin, this is an eternal theme that all kinds of culture in the world would like to study. There were different literature in Chinese talking about this, including “Fire" from To Fu and ancient history books in China. This is also an important idea in modern art and literature.

The composer started singing overtone 2 years ago. Overtone singing enables the singer to produce 2 sounds at the same time. Natural overtone is the origin of music. Any sound that any instrument plays, is a combination of overtones.

The composer would like to treat this piece as a service music, wishing all audiences could find their peace in listening to it.

樂曲介紹

根源、源頭是傳統的中國文學中常常提及和討論的概念。而最令作曲者深刻的古文則是杜甫《火》 : 「羅落沸百泓，根源皆萬古。」和《魏書・崔光傳》 :「此乃學者之根源，不朽之永格。」時至今日，人或事的根源仍然是現代文學重視的題材之一。

作曲者在兩年前開始自學一種喉唱技巧 : 呼麥。所謂呼麥，是利用嘴型、舌尖、氣的運用和身體的共鳴去令演唱者可以同時唱出兩個或更多的音。以作曲者的唱法為例，他可以唱到一個底音(平常唱法)再加一個根據自然泛音列的其中一個自然泛音(可轉換)。

自然泛音某程度是音樂的源。它是天然和無處不在的。例如當小提琴奏一個音的時候，其實就會有該音以上無數個自然泛音出來，只是人類的耳朵未必可以聽到，所以呼麥的唱法可說是以人工的方法帶出自然的聲音。在呼麥加上具泛音音色的弦樂後，更會産生一種強烈共鳴、震動的新聲音。

人們常常在煩囂的城市內生活和工作，很少有機會可以有心身平靜的時間。作曲者把這首作品當作一首服務音樂(service music)，希望觀眾可以從中得到平靜，放鬆自己，享受人生，思源思己。
