Another version 1 : Slide Over the Water 凌波微步 (2017) *, For dizi and ensemble, 4‘ (2017年10月13日演, Small chamber)
The composer loves the novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils which by Mr. Jin Yong very much. This time, the composer used his most favorite character Duan Yu’s martial arts “Slide over the Water” as inspiration to compose this song.
“Slide over the Water” comes from Cao Zhi’s Luo Shen Fu – “Xiu Xun Fei Fu, Piao Hu Ruo Shen. Ling Bo Wei Bu, Luo Wa Sheng Chen. Dong Wu Chang Ze, Ruo Wei Ruo An. Jin Zhi Nan Qi, Ruo Wang Ruo Hai". In Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, “Slide over the Water” are martial arts that evolved in the direction of I Ching “Hexagram”. Its footwork is weird, doing some turning in an unexpected way, flashing around and so on.
This song combines Chinese and Western music elements and creative techniques. The composer uses a large number of complicated counterpoint and irregular rhythm patterns, so that each instrument seems to have their own footwork, and it is their own way. However, after summing up each individual line, the whole song will have an effect that is disorderly and orderly but echoes each other. It embodies the fact that “Dong Wu Chang Ze, Ruo Wei Ruo An. Jin Zhi Nan Qi, Ruo Wang Ruo Hai”.
The composer composed the song between 2017 and 2018 and made another revision in 2019.
